It was an exciting day for the Ducks at the girls sectional track meet! Two state qualifiers: Jen Bonnett - Long Jump, and Josie Hughes -300 Hurdles!
Adding to the excitement was two SCHOOL RECORDS!: Josie Hughes - 300H, :48.91, and the 4x100 team - Bonnett, Hughes, Jersee Hamm, Keagen Clifton, :52.21. This is a PR of 1.2 seconds for this team! The automatic state qualifying time for the 4x100 is :52.20, so this team only missed qualifying by .01 sec! So close, but still a school record!
Finally, EVERY Havana athlete competing in this meet had at least one personal record in an event tonight! Our toughest competitors are the timer and tape measure... our kids all won tonight!

HAVANA CUSD #126
Dear Havana #126 employees, students, and families,
I write to ask for your patience and understanding as our district navigates the latest changes to the COVID-19 guidance and rules for Illinois schools.
On Friday night a Sangamon County judge ruled on a lawsuit filed on behalf of students, parents and employees against ISBE, IDPH, and 146 school districts across the state that challenged state-mandated COVID-19 mitigations.
We have been reviewing all the information in the judge’s decision and been in contact with school district attorneys to better understand how the ruling may apply to those of us not involved in the law. The ruling and temporary restraining order issued only applies to the parties named in the lawsuit. The judge denied a motion to have her decision applied to all students, staff and employees state wide earlier in the proceedings.
The Attorney General’s office has filed a motion to stay (pause) the decision which could be ruled on in the next couple of days. They also filed a motion to appeal the decision in the appellate courts. This appellate court decision will either uphold or overturn the circuit court decision. An appellate court decision will establish precedent and most likely apply to all schools statewide. The appellate court will rule by February 17th.
We would very much appreciate your patience for just a little bit longer. Although this ruling doesn’t apply to our district directly, it has opened the door to possible changes coming very soon to all Illinois Schools.
Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. While it has been a challenging 2 years, we will continue to push forward together.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Plater

Havana #126 Schools will be cancelled tomorrow, Wednesday Feb. 2nd

Dear Havana HS parents and guardians,
Today we had 5 students test positive for COVID 19 and 4 of them attended the homecoming dance where masks were not worn properly 100% of the time. At the dance 231 students were in close contact with each other, singing and dancing and many students attended private gatherings after the dance where no protocols were followed. For all those reasons the Mason County Health Department in consultation with IDPH are considering everyone who attended the dance a close contact. They will allow those that attended the dance to continue to come to school if they are tested every other day and remain negative. Any student that attended the dance cannot participate in any extracurricular event until next Monday night provided they test negative on Monday, unless they have been vaccinated or have tested positive for Covid in the past 90 days.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work through the situation that is out of our control.
Thank You,
Mr. McKinney

Just a reminder that tomorrow is all school picture day at the high school. Thank You. Mr. McKinney

This is Mr. McKinney at the High School.
Tomorrow, August 10th is registration. All high school students will register in the high school office area. Enter into the building through the gym doors on the west side of the school. In person registration is open from 9:00 – 1:00, 2:30 – 5:30. You can still register on-line though Alma Start if you wish. As per the Governor’s order, anyone entering the building will have to wear a mask the whole time they are inside. We will have a table set up in the hallway where you will pick up your demographic sheet and make any changes to it, so we can update your records in the student management system. Yearbooks will be passed out in Room 26. Fees, schedule changes can be done in the office. We also will have signup sheet for those that would like to opt into our testing to stay in school program. Signing up would mean that when a student has been close contact to a positive case we could do the minimal evasive quick nasal swab test to ensure whether or not they were positive. If they were not positive then they would stay in school. We think we will have a lot of parents’ sign their students up for the program tomorrow and we in turn should only have to quarantine students in the program when they are actually positive. At the high school, we had 569 quarantined students last year. We had several students that were quarantined multiple times, so signing up for this program could significantly reduce those numbers. We would also ask that if your student has received the vaccine for COVID that you bring in the card and we can make a copy of it and put it in their file. Students who have been vaccinated and are symptom free do not have to quarantine due to close contact. For those that have registered on-line, the test to stay forms are on the link on the district website along with other information about Covid protocols this year. It is located under the scrolling photos in white box marked (Covid/Return To School Info). You can print off a permission sheet and have your student bring a completed one to school the first day of school. We will also have copies in the office. We are going to get through this year with less academic and athletic interruptions and more normal activities for our students and the test to stay program will support this greatly.
Thank You

Freshman orientation date has been changed to tomorrow, Tuesday August 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the high school gym. We will have the North bleachers pulled out for seating. When you enter the gym there will be a table set up with your schedule and a map of the school for you to pick up. After our presentation, students can go around the building and find their classroom and locker. As per the Governor's directive, everyone entering the school will be masked at all times whether you have been inoculated or not. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow night.
